Who we are
A CONNECTION BETWEEN EMPLOYERS,
REFUGEES, AND COMMUNITY.
Refugees have resettled across Canada, from Whitehorse, Yukon in the north to St. John’s, Newfoundland in the east. By the end of 2022, the World Economic Forum reported nearly 32 million people worldwide were forcibly displaced. By April 2023, the war in Ukraine had forced over 8 million people to flee their homeland in search of safety.
In response, the Welcoming Economy coalition of Canada-based organizations was formed to launch the 2022 #WelcomingEconomy communications campaign. The initiative was coordinated by the Refugee Jobs Agenda Roundtable.
WHAT WE DO
BRIDGE THE
CONNECTION
Welcoming Economy was established by The Refugee Jobs Agenda Roundtable, a multi-sectoral network that collaborates with government leaders, community agencies, and employers. Together, we plan and implement practical, employment-focused initiatives to connect refugees with job opportunities across cities in Canada.

As Canada continues to welcome Afghan refugees, Ukrainian newcomers, and many other refugees and refugee claimants, the Refugee Jobs Agenda Roundtable has coordinated an employer-led Welcoming Economy national communications campaign. This campaign highlights success stories, explores the business case for hiring refugees in positions that match their education, and demonstrates how refugee contributions are vital to thriving communities.
